10 Days Home

Look at that perfectly composed boy in that wheelchair. You'd never know he was tearing it up with crutches in the house. He can even run after Seth and smack him with a crutch while balancing on the other crutch and never touch his cast to the ground. What balance, what skill, what bravery, because you know Seth isn't going to let him get away with it. Yes, we have drama, plus we have pain meds so it's kind of goofy around here.

Jared's friends at Journey's made get well cards for him to enjoy. He started back to Journey's today and came home with many more signatures on his cast. (Journey's is a place in Rigby where Jared gets different therapies) I took pictures from every angle so we can remember how great everyone has been. (We are NOT keeping the cast, I cannot even tell you how gross they get inside, super yuck.)

A pop-up card. I am always impressed with pop-up cards. They take work and patience.

One angle of the signed cast. Did you know that there are pins sticking out of his foot but covered by the cast? He goes back to Shriner's on August 11th to have the cast removed and the pins taken out. Then they'll give him another cast, so the signing can begin all over again.

On the Way Home!

Jared was discharged this afternoon and left Shriner's about 1:00. Hopefully he will be as comfortable on the way home as he has been at the hospital.

His wheelchair was delivered yesterday and Jeremy picked up his meds at University Pharmacy so he should be ready to rock when he gets here.

The doctor told Jared he can use crutches getting aroung the house, but when he leaves the house he has to absolutely be in the wheelchair. He doesn't want Jared getting bumped or jostled and accidently putting weight on the foot. As he told Jared, "that would be very bad".

Post Surgery - Day 3

Thanks for your posts and love and caring. I appreciate your prayers and faith during this time. See you when I get home. Bring lots of Markers to sign my cast.

The doctor in the photos with me today is my surgeon, Dr. Santora. I describe him as funny, cheerful, upbeat and uplifting, and trustworthy. He shows all the characteristics of the Scout Law.

The picture of my leg with the wire on it is the nerve block for my foot and the pump is the for the medicine. I am glad that I had it. It sure helped with the pain.

Do you like peas and carrots? That is what I think about when I see my cast and green sock.

I was miserable on Thursday because of the pain and being hungry. After a shower today and the right meds I am fine and ready to come home. I am still a little wobbly on my crutches by not nearly as bad as with a walker. In fact, one of the PT nurses is amazed that I do better with Crutches than a walker, He said that this was the first time he has seen a kid do that before.

Thanks again for all of your support before my surgery and now.

see ya

Day after Surgery part 2

Jared has been kind of miserable today. The numbing medicine has worn off about 1pm and he has been in a great deal of pain. Jared finally got the pain under control about 4:30pm and went to sleep for a couple of hours.

Jared helped his friend Roan from Canada celebrate his birthday tonight. Roan's sister is a patient here and had surgery the day before Jared's. Roan will be traveling home tomorrow and his sister will be leaving on Saturday.

Jared met another patient here. His name is Alonzo. He is great at PS2 games and when Jared is feeling better tomorrow then they are going to play some.

Sorry Pictures are not available due to confidentiality.

The plan as of tonight is for Jared to come home on Saturday afternoon. This is dependent on the level of pain and if they are controlled easily with oral pain meds.

Jared sends his love to you all.

More pictures will be available once Jared is up and moving.

The day after the Surgery

Hello Everyone,

We are grateful for you prayers. Jared came through with a great attitude and is doing great. He is still very hungry from missing breakfast and lunch yesterday. Jared had a large breakfast and some snacks already this morning.

Jared wants to that those that have called him for their support and love. Tell Robbie and Chip thanks.

Jared is pretty much bed bound today. He still has a block in his leg for the pain. This should be removed in the morning. It looks like Jared may be home on Saturday. Jared will be limited to crutches and a walker, and possibly a wheelchair for about a month.
