Back in Room 3

He's back! All rigged up in an orange cast, propped up on pillows, and covered in ice packs. He has a new blanket and a stunning orange Shriner's ball cap. (To match the cast).
He's a little tired and a lot hungry. He ate 2 grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, fries, fruit, crackers, and chocolate pudding. He has a banana stashed for later.
He's been dozing off and on, trying to watch a little T.V. He's glad it's over and he says it's not as bad as he thought it would be. We didn't tell him that the nerve block hasn't worn off yet. So, he may change his mind about the whole thing tomorrow.

Why we are here!

They took Jared in at about 1:oo Wednesday and brought him back at about 3:30. In between, they did this! The doctor cut the bone, turned it "40!" degrees, and screwed it back together.

Room 3

This is the view from Jared's room. My photo looks fuzzy, the view is much better than the picture shows.

This is the ceiling in room 3. There are amazing details everywhere in this hospital. Lots of color and big windows with great views.

This is Jared's bed. He has his own room this time and only has to share it with dad. We won't show dad's bed, it's a poor sad uncomfortable little thing.

On Our Way! (again)

We left on Tuesday morning at about 7:45 so we could make our one stop to drop off some stuff for Jeremy, then we were on our way. Jared and Seth packed up the car (it looks like we're taking too much again, but oh, well).

There they are, grumpy and grouchy settling into the back seat for the ride.

We made it! Jared slept most of the trip. He's a little nervous and so are we. As we were driving, we listened to the inauguration on the radio. Hope the boys will remember when they're older.

O.K. I love this elevator on the second floor. Very cool looking. It's glass in the back so you can see where you're going.

It only took 3 trips with the little red wagon to get the car unloaded. We were going to put Jared to work, but the hospital staff had other ideas for his time, so Seth was out of luck for a helper.

Back at Shriner's

We checked back into Shriner's Hospital this afternoon. We can not believe that it has been over 4 weeks since his surgery. Tomarrow Jared is getting his cast changed and the pins removed from his foot. We should be going home tomarrow afternoon. As luck would have it, Jared is staying in the same room as his previous visit. He has a room mate this time. We will check back in later tonight.

Healing Update

The healing is coming along slowly. Jared is off the pain meds. He gets around pretty well, but showering is a real chore. He has to wrap his cast in a trash bag and hang his leg out of the shower while trying to balance on the other leg and concentrating on not falling over. Needless to say, he doesn't shower often.

Jared and Jeremy will be making the trip back to Shriner's this Sunday so they can admit him for a quick surgery on Monday. They will take off his cast, remove the pins that are sticking out of his foot, re-x-ray everything, and re-cast him. If everything looks good, the cast should be more of a walking cast. Then the cast signing can begin all over again!
