Here is some interesting facts about the foot and ankle.
The foot and ankle contain: 26 bones (One-quarter of the bones in the human body are in the feet.); 33 joints; more than 100 muscles, tendons (fibrous tissues that connect muscles to bones), and ligaments (fibrous tissues that connect bones to other bones); and a network of blood vessels, nerves, skin, and soft tissue.

Jared's surgery went from 3:00pm to about 6:15pm. He finally arrived back in the room about 7:00pm. The Doctor told me that Jared had six different things done to his foot. He did not have to have a tibial osteotomy this time. I will try to explain what the doctor did on his foot.
Here is the outline of the 6 parts of the surgery:
1- Released the stiffness of the two ligaments that run down the front and top of the foot.
2-Removed scar tissue from the incision on the right side of the foot where the bone graft was placed on his first surgery and released the stiffness of the tendon in that area.
3-Pinned the Navicular bone to the talus.
4-On the left side of the foot above the arch, the doctor tightened the tendon on the side and discovered that Jared was missing a tendon that keeps the foot straight. He replaced this tendon from a flexor tendon in the foot.
5-Fused the calcaneous to the talus, to keep the heel from slipping anymore. He still has up and down movement in the ankle but the side to side movement is still limited as it was before the surgery.
6-Lengthen the heel cord again.

Jared is doing fine and is very hungry right now. He did not want to wait to eat. After about an hour he was going to eat some chicken noodle soup and then later some grilled cheese sandwiches.
He is doing fine for now and I will post tomorrow.

Hope you got some sleep last night. We were glad to hear that you surgery went ok. Rob called from Little Lemhi Scout Camp lst night to see how you are doing. He said that about 3:00 you popped into his mind and he had been thinking and praying about you since then. Kinda cool that the spirit prompted him to keep you in his mind jsut as you went to surgery.
Love ya dude,
